“Chesapeake Park” from Chesapeake Park
Chesapeake Park offers a physical, interactive experience that entertains and brings joy to viewers. It interacts with the viewers through the blending of concept artworks of the different areas in the park, a clay/3D-printed park model, and a guide map that directs people to the model. The concept artworks are all digitally painted, with areas encompassing the entrance of the park, the center point lake with the icon to the park, and four themed sections themed to industry, fantasy, history, and mythology, filled with attractions, restaurants, and other services. The guide map is a digital creation through graphic design and digital drawing that will be given to everyone at the Julio gallery, where it will encourage them to leave the main space and follow the map towards the Black box theater, where you will find the park. And a physical model of the park made with 3d printed materials and painted clay that visitors will be able to admire while referencing the guide map to guide them through the details in the park. The mixture of these three components brings out the ideas and aspirations of Chesapeake Park to provide the viewers of the gallery with an artwork that will make them explore and admire the components, to provide entertainment and joy.
I desire this park to entertain people, to provide joy and escapism to an audience that struggles to find any sort of enjoyment due to their harsh conditions of work, relationships, and internally. Theme Parks have often been a source of escapism and joy for me whenever I was dealing with issues regarding my family and education. These fantastical worlds filled with all kinds of details and experience capture my imagination and bring me relief, even if for a moment. Now I want to share these feelings that I witnessed with people who come and appreciate my craftsmanship as an artist, and the joys and nostalgia the experience exudes to the people. And now, if people experience signs of happiness and I bring them joy from their sad lives, then it is all I can ask for as an artist and aspiring theme park designer.
