Opening: “A Piece of Me Died With You”

On February 22nd, the Julio Fine Arts Gallery welcomes a new solo exhibition, A Piece of Me Died With You by Devin Allen. The collection includes photographs, video, sculptural and audio elements as well as paint and charcoal pieces.

Being from Baltimore, Allen explains how he was “exposed to the harsh realities of life” with the loss of his cousin and friend due to gun violence when Allen was only 6 and 14, respectively. This exhibition explores memories of the forgotten and the tradition of murals used as a commemoration of the dead.

Allen’s work stands as a personal reflection of coping with loss that many can understand and relate to. It also serves as a reminder to the ever-growing plague that is gun violence in America, not just Baltimore.

Join us TONIGHT, Thursday February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at McManus Theatre for a candid artist Q&A! Hear more of Allen’s story and journey as an artist. (All our programs are free and open to all!)

The exhibition will run from February 22nd to March 27th!
