Artist Statement

Tomas Fernandez is a business student at Loyola Maryland double majoring in finance and marketing with a minor in innovation and entrepreneurship. His experience as an investment banking analyst, founder of the Loyola Consulting Club, and steering committee member for the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship have helped him develop a business-oriented mindset.

Through the lens of these experiences Tomas tries to get into a graduating artists mind and answer the question: “how can I make my art a sustainable business” through analyzing the importance of` Budgeting, Pricing, Product Diversification, and Marketing.

These important topics are visually represented in a film presentation in conjunction to important quotes from young professional artists. This work aims to uncover and expose useful insights on how to achieve financial sustainability while remaining true to creative callings.

About the Artist

Tomas Fernandez will be graduating from Loyola Maryland double majoring in finance and marketing with a minor in innovation and entrepreneurship in December of 2021. His interest in the arts, entrepreneurship, and sustainable businesses have driven him to step into the shoes of emerging artists in the search for insights that may help others commercialize their art.

While lacking formal art experience beyond an entry level design course, some occasional paintings and doodles Tomas leverages his business experiences to look at professional practices for artists through a different perspective.
