“Blood & Vows & Greed & Lust & Envy” from The White Ronin

The White Ronin is an action-packed wuxia-like story set in a futuristic society. This superpowered world of martial arts, guns, and swords only exists due to the discovery of vows using blood or its magical substitute ANIMA. These vows are beliefs, dreams, promises, and oaths to oneself. We see in the story our protagonist Ryuk unintentionally goes against his vows and the consequences to that.

The story has several elements that represent my anxieties, regrets, mental struggles, and Journey as a computer scientist who did a complete 180 into the art field. The work has a lot of personal connections for me as it is not only an exciting project, but a symbolic log of struggles I went through with my life. There are elements of depression, suicide, fear of loss, anxiety, self-doubt, and very personal attachments and ideologies. My art is the journey and self-reflection of my life. As much as this art piece is a reminder to me of who I was, it is also a reminder of who I am becoming.
