Trevor SanGiorgio

Trevor SanGiorgio is a interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn and Baltimore. His practice spans collage, painting, and digital media, with a focus on exploring time, memory, and pop cultural moments. He’s fascinated by how the past transforms the present, and aims to create visually engaging work that reawakens forgotten aesthetics while giving them new life and relevance. Whether he is crafting intricate paper collages, experimenting with different mediums, or blending traditional and digital techniques – his work is rooted in traditional craftsmanship and a desire to tell stories that resonate across generations. Every piece is a curation of curiosity, narrative, and the pursuit of creating something visually striking yet deeply meaningful.

“Retro Realities#1” from Retro Realities

Retro Realities is a visually striking series of hand-cut collages exploring identity, individuality, and cultural transformation through the lens of the “Swinging Sixties.” The 1960s marked a pivotal shift in American history and pop culture, bridging the traditionalism of the 1950s with the bold, rebellious spirit of the generations that followed. Each 24” x 36” piece incorporates layers of period inspired imagery and colors, creating sculptural depth while keeping the surface smooth. Every paper cut, outline, and painted accent is intentionally placed to capture the tactile energy of the 1960s while maintaining a contemporary feel.

The series examines three defining aspects of the decade; the Mod Era, reflecting youthful sophistication in fashion, music, and design; the Psychedelic Era, celebrating experimentation, selfexpression, and drawing inspiration from artists like Wes Wilson, Victor Moscoso, and Peter Blake; and the political and social era, including protests, the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Movement. Rather than simply recreating the 1960s, the work reinterprets it. It merges handmade craft with mass produced culture, echoing the spirit of the age. The series invites viewers to reflect on a time when color, sound, and rebellion expressed identity, highlighting ideals of freedom, creativity, and self-expression that continue to resonate today.
